Williams Showcases its Heritage at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Williams returns to the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex this week, providing spectators with a chance to get up close and personal with a number of the team’s iconic Formula One cars.

Part of the week’s activities will see former Formula One World Champion Damon Hill tackle the Goodwood estate’s famous 1.16-mile hill climb on the Sunday behind the wheel of the FW18, the car that took him to the 1996 Formula One Drivers’ Championship title. WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING driver Felipe Massa will also be in attendance on the Saturday, where he too will take to the wheel of the FW18. The team’s Test & Reserve Driver Felipe Nasr will also attend and have his chance to run the FW18, giving the fans plenty of opportunity to see the team’s 1996 title-winning car in action.

On display will be a WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING show car, with a mocked-up team garage and trucks for spectators to view. Goodwood will be one of the first display events for Williams Heritage, the newly-founded division of Williams that maintains and showcases the team’s historic racing cars at events around the world.

Speaking about Williams’ return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Jonathan Williams, Williams Heritage said; “The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a highlight of the motorsport calendar and it’s always fun to showcase Williams’ historic assets to thousands of highly knowledgeable fans. The FW18 is one of the most successful Williams cars, so to see Damon reunited with it will be very special and something that I’m sure fans will appreciate. With the establishment of Williams Heritage as a distinct division of Williams, the plan is to conduct a growing number of these events in the future and to showcase and support our past racing cars and technology for a new generation of fans.”

Felipe Massa commented: “This will be my first time back at Goodwood since 2003 when I drove the Ferrari F2002. It will be nice to go back as there is always a great atmosphere at Goodwood and it’s a great event. I’m really happy to be able to get behind the wheel of one of the team’s historic cars. It will be fantastic to drive such an incredible car as the FW18. I’m also looking forward to driving in front of all the amazing fans that have a true love of all motorsports.”
